Library of Congress Subject Heading Term Revision Proposal
This proposal, to revise a Library of Congress subject heading term, is a project I completed for LIS 60603: Subject Analysis, Representation, and Access. It aligns with PLO Four: Evaluate systems and technologies relevant to a particular information context. For this project, I proposed changing the Library of Congress Subject Heading, “Sexual minorities,” to “LGBTQ+” people, as the former is not typically representative of the term the average user would use. I then wrote the proposal for the revision in MARC21 format. This project connects to the ALTCS Core Competencies for Cataloging and Metadata Professionals standards on knowledge of foundational cataloging and metadata principles and knowledge of systems and technology.
